To Learn, Laugh, Love. 3L Foundation is a product of our shared experiences to illuminate a bright path for those in darkness. As the story goes, "While being just eleven years old, Ashley Syms was first introduced to the Pattaya Orphanage in Thailand. Along with her mother and family friends, she would spend vacations with the little ones at the orphanage, changing diapers, feeding bottles, playing patty cake, and giving out as many hugs and kisses as they could fit in a day."...

More Than HTML(5)

Without aesthetic, design is either the humdrum repetition of familiar clichés or a wild scramble for novelty. Without the aesthetic, the computer is but a mindless speed machine, producing effects without substance. Form without relevant content, or content without meaningful form. — Paul Rand Today’s online world has become increasingly virtual, global, and interactive. We are no longer restricted to dial-ups or AOL screen names and search engines have exceeded anyone’s expectations. Who would have ever though “Google” would integrate itself into everyday...

Color is an experience. Color is a defining attribute in the world we live in. We live  in a world in which we come to know things via our senses; let's call these perceptual experiences. As humans, we perceive color in truly amazing ways. In fact part of the beauty and awe of color is that the perceptional experience of color is just that, namely the way it appears to us. We perceive color just as we perceive taste.  For instance, can...

December 16, 2009 |  by Benny  |  Inspiration, Selected Work  |  No Comments

Formerly Art Partitions, LYNNEL Art to Form is striving to revise and expand the ways in which original artwork can be used in commercial and residential settings.  Their process employs digital technology to enhance and transfer artistic compositions to glass, acrylic, fabric, metal, and wall coverings for use in a wide range of environments. In the original meetings to discuss the design and interface that would become the site, words like "architectural" and "minimal" were used very often, but in the context of separate...

It's a Langley

It’s a Langley

November 29, 2009 |  by Steve  |  Inspiration, News  |  No Comments

It’s that time of year again!  Time to grab your camera, bundle up, head up the hill, build a handsome and corpulent snowman, and take pictures of him for the day.  What a fun project! I’m sure he must have been absolutely delightful to work with (and I must admit, i'm slightly jealous)! Todd Langley and his photography have been an inspiration to me for a number of years now.  Langley and I have worked together on numerous projects including photography and motion...

“Regarded as an expression of an old way of life,” Sassi di Matera is a prodigious conservation project located in beautiful southern Italy, just a mere 240-km southwest from Naples.  This project is one of many similar projects, aimed at preserving the renowned heritage of the historic Bronze age civilizations and monastic communities.  The story surrounding this place is absolutely astonishing, yet troublesome. Quoting from their website, “One of the most impressive epics of the southern Italian peasants, enslaved to this region’s...

Pixel Perfect 3D Visualization

This is a promotional website for Indie band Concave Scream’s latest instrumental album - Soundtrack For A Book. As you may know I absolutely love Adobe Flash and all the creative liberty it offers, not to mention I also have this curious fascination with 3D interfaces. This website utilizes both of these elements and takes them to avant-garde measures, rarely seen.  The 3D visualization is dazzling and impressive.  I could seriously be preoccupied with this visualizer for hours.  The music is also...

We Love Type

October 15, 2009 |  by Steve  |  Inspiration  |  No Comments

We are typeface geeks and you should be too, thus the natural gravitation to this site. Sliders are also very cool and significant goodies of our design and development tools, and tend to be a reoccurring theme for us.  The main interface for this site is based on a gigantic slider, for the entire site is essentially a big scroll-bar.  Adobe Flash and ActionScript 3.0 provide some super clean light-weight easing and makes the user's experience that much more enjoyable; it is...
